Native American beadwork

The Federal Prison at Cahaba was a former corn and cotton warehouse situated high above the Alabama River.  The thick walls of the warehouse were red brick and stood fourteen feet high.  There had once been a roof, but time and the elements had taken their toll, leaving much of the interior open to the sky.  The sections still intact, at the front and rear of the warehouse, were badly damaged, and provided only minimal protection from sun and rain.
